“Teaching in the Internet age means we must teach tomorrow’s skills today.” By Jennifer Fleming
Nowadays, technology has become an advantage for teachers and students especially in the learning process. I would say that I´m already a technology-based teacher, and to tell the truth I´m loving and enjoying it and I perceive my students do too. In order to provide a quality instruction using technology I use certain webpage’s that provide free and constant new trainings in education but also tutorials about new educational software.
In my plan, standards are extremely important, but also I include activities where I include activities to foster the 4C´s (communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity) which are part of the 21st century skills. Encouraging those skills gives smooth to my classroom management and also helps students and I address certain content and objectives on an easier way. Students work actively motivated and being the mentors of their learning while me as an instructor supervise and enjoy more.
I believe that part of teachers function is to constantly analyze their methods, practices and strategies. This self feedback could be provided by our students, colleagues or even our own reflection. Also, avoiding unclearness is ideal to maintain a positive affective filter in the classroom. We could get it by providing on-time feedback, giving clear and specific instructions and answering our student´s concerns. Online or printed rubrics are great tools to assess.
I motivate my students providing certain software and applications. For reviewing, introducing or even evaluating content some of the ones I use are Kahoot, Engrade, TeacherTube, Powtoon, Animaker and other software that are safe for them. I believe that students can use their cell phones wise and meaningfully always if I give the correct instruction and specification.
My plans are my map. They´re divided in yearly and weekly planning. I use SIOP model, and Engrade since it allows me to upload them and is available wherever I go if I have internet. I´m convinced that the way we present content or start lessons have a direct impact in my students’ perception and that impact will determine openness for learning no matter how difficult they think it is. Some of the strategies I use for the big beginning are; brainstorm, TPR, audiovisuals, Venn Diagrams, computer lab and on-line games.
But not only presenting and delivering instruction is important, but the how our students are going to produce in class has to be considered. Some of the resources I have managed are tablets, computers, laptops, smart phones, Smart boards and projectors.
Some of the platforms and softwares I use to practice content such as Skype, Kahoot, Prezi, 3D Indiana, Delta drawing, Encarta as a dictionary, Google earth for virtual trips in social studies, and Accelerated Reader for reading skills.
Since I plan considering my student´s learning styles, technology gives me the opportunity to address them wisely such as using beats program for those with musical intelligence when composing a song, Word for those who likes to write and create, Powtoon for those who are visuals and so on. “A lesson plan is the instructor’s road map of what students need to learn and how it will be done effectively during the class time. “Fink, D. L. (2005). Integrated course design. Manhattan, KS: The IDEA Center.

Parents are also important part of my student´s life and success. They are informed for me about their child´s progress through Engrade but also they can get in contact with important information and upcoming activities through my webpage and professional blog.
Collaborating with peers is also part of my philosophy. I think teachers should share important information each other. I love to find new platforms and web pages where I share with them but also with teachers all over the world.
It is extremely important to check the validity of content we recommend or use in our teaching. Watch for student’s safety always by evaluating them through professional rubrics.
